Do you remember Burns Night 2018? We certainly do – the very first drop of spirit flowed off our stills, and the casks have been piling up ever since! We’re nearing the magical 3 year mark – when our first barrel legally becomes ‘Single Malt Scotch Whisky’ and the fun really begins.
At the distillery, we’ve been picking barrels, testing blends and piecing together the inaugural batch of GlenWyvis whisky. This will be a mix of casks (1st Fill Bourbon & Sherry, mostly), so unfortunately we have to wait a little longer before offering a limited release. Specifically, we have a couple of amazing sherry barrels that will be ready by June 2021, and we want to bring them into this first bottling, ready for release by Christmas 2021.
Pre-sales will be available on our online store starting 10am, Thursday October 22nd 2020.
Price will be £100 (includes VAT and UK shipping).
As with all our online sales, 5% of your purchase will go into the GlenWyvis Community Benefit Fund.
All pre-orders and investor rewards will be delivered by Christmas 2021.
The whisky itself will be just over 3 years old, non-chill filtered, no colouring added and 50% abv. The bottle design itself will be slowly revealed as we get closer to release. Its current incarnation is quite grain forward (as you might expect from a younger whisky), showcasing the unusual fruity maltiness of our 142 hour fermentation. 1st fill Bourbon casks add a surprisingly balanced amount of oak after 3 years, while a few exceptionally active sherry hogsheads contribute a subtle, rich sweetness and, as an added bonus, unmistakable colour. The exact makeup is likely to change between now and bottling, but our hope is to showcase the true character of our grain and distillation without overwhelming it with oak, using sherry as a complement rather than a base.
